Goin’ Green

Scott and his classmates were encouraged to watch, and there were several class contests during the week about the “green” stories. Scott was watching intently yesterday morning in order to be able to report that news anchor Anne Curry was traveling to the South Pole. Of course, the real story was about the melting of the ice cap, and I wanted to make sure Scott understood that.
I asked him, “remember when we were at the beach this summer? If you could measure straight up, how high was the house from the water?”
“Maybe ten feet,” he answered.
“So what would happen if the melting glaciers raised the ocean ten feet?”
“That’d be a pretty wet house.” he replied.
He got it, and sat quietly for a while thinking about that.
